About Giant Pandas

The giant panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca) is one of the world's most beloved and recognizable animals. Native to the mountain forests of central China, these iconic black-and-white bears have captured hearts around the globe β€” including in Russia and Canada!

🌱 Giant pandas are a global symbol of conservation β€” their recovery from the edge of extinction is one of the great wildlife success stories of our time.

Pandas live in temperate broadleaf and mixed forests in the mountains of southwest China. Their diet consists almost entirely of bamboo β€” yet they are biologically classified as carnivores.

Thanks to decades of dedicated conservation work, the giant panda was officially downgraded from "Endangered" to "Vulnerable" on the IUCN Red List in 2016 β€” a remarkable milestone celebrated worldwide.
